Groovin The Moo 2016 is set to kick off later this month, giving those living in regional centres around Australia a taste of what we in the city take for granted. This year, the lineup features lots of big names and local favourites.

In addition to internationals like, Twenty One Pilots, Danny Brown, Ratatat, and Odesza, there’ll be sets from the likes of Alison Wonderland, Boo Seeka, Boy & Bear, and British India, as well as last-minute additions Jarryd James and What So Not.

One act we’re particularly excited about catching while they’re in town for Groovin’ is party starting duo MS MR who captivated audiences at Splendour less than 12 months ago.

To find out just what albums give Lizzy and Max life, we caught up with the two piece to find out what records changed their lives. Check out MS MR’s selections below and be sure to catch them when they roll into town.

Bloc Party – Silent Alarm

2005, V2 Records Japan

Lizzy: I don’t think I would work in music or make it if it weren’t for the huge impact this record had on my life.

There’s such an epic raw desperation and earnestness to Kele’s lyrics and it encapsulates all the things I love about the indie rock sound I grew up with in London.

Robyn – Body Talk

2010, Interscope Records

Max: I’m cheating a little here since Body Talk is really three amazing mini albums, each of which has at least one era-defining song on it.

Robyn imbues dance music with such intense emotionality – it makes me want to dance and cry, sometimes at the same time.

The Flaming Lips – Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots

2002, Warner Bros. Records

Lizzy: Definitely the first concept record I was ever exposed to it opened my mind to how far you can push the parameters of what an album is both sonically and narratively.

It’s one of the only albums that I ONLY listen to from start to finish.

The Preatures – Planet Blue Eyes

2014, Harvest Records

Max: I listen to this album almost every morning for an instant mood lift.

They’re such a great live band – and delightful people!.

Lauryn Hill –Miseducation of Lauryn Hill

1998, Ruffhouse Records

Lizzy: One of my favorite voices of all time, I feel like I began to start finding my own voice singing along to this record.

I first heard my older brother playing it in his room and I stole the cd from him the next day.

Paul Simon – Graceland

1986, Warner Bros. Records

Max: I listened to this album in utero and it’s been with me ever since.
