To say the Australian festival market has seen a tough 12 or so months would be an understatement. Not only have we seen several smaller, boutique events call it quits, we’ve lost some our biggest industry bastions.
Just a week ago we saw the permanent cancellation of Stereosonic, the last of Australia’s big-time touring festivals, which then turned into a 2016 cancellation, and then a mere hiatus, though signs aren’t good for a 2017 return.
But the organisers of Sandalphon 2016, a new Aussie music festival set to take place over the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend in the Gold Coast Hinterland, are urging you not to be “Disheartened By Cancelled Festivals”.
“Australian music festivals are dropping like flies, but don’t empty your festival outfits from your shopping carts,” they write. “Heck, don’t cancel your gym memberships! From their demise, have risen a brand new 3-day music festival that really aims to impress.”
We should say so, according to Sandalphon organisers, the event will boast an absolutely all-star international lineup set to drop shortly. Apparently, the lineup have a combined Facebook fan base of over 2 billion fans, so we’re talking big time.

The event will take over 225 acres of private land, presenting acts across seven stages, including The Main Stage, The Lake (literally a stage built on a lake), and The Treehouse, hidden off the festival map as a secret town.
Each ticket includes free camping, but if you want to glamp it up, there’s a pop-up hotel, in addition to heaps of amusement rides, an open air cinema, bathroom attendants, a food market, and support from the Australian Red Cross ‘Save a Mate’ program and Red Frogs Australia.
It almost sounds too good to be true. Tickets are on sale right now and you can head on over to the official Sandalphon website for more info or to get your ticket early. The lineup will be announced “very soon” so stay tuned.
