Tone Deaf favourites The Holidays have won the Red Bull Award for Best Debut Release as part of the 6th Australian Music Prize. The Sydney quartet released Post Paradise to great critical acclaim in September and now they’re collecting a very handy $15,000 in flights and accommodation which they’ll use to travel to Los Angeles and spend a week knocking out demos for their second album at the Red Bull studio in Santa Monica.
From there they’re heading off to the South By South West Music Festival in Austin, Texas Singer/guitarist Simon Jones says of the win: “So many great debut albums have come out in 2010 that we feel truly honoured to receive the Red Bull award. This award is a really important boost for us at the start of what we’re hoping will be a big year in Australia and overseas.” The band join the ranks of previous winners Goyte, Bluejuice, Jack Ladder and Oh Mercy.
