Beloved Aussie rockers The Ocean Party have announced they’re calling it quits, months on from the passing of longtime member Zac Denton.

Back in October, The Ocean Party took to social media to break the devastating news that Zac Denton had passed away unexpectedly.

In the immediate aftermath, the group offered up their new album, The Oddfellow’s Hall, as a free download a little earlier than planned, and also continued on with their previously-announced tour dates as a way to honour Zac’s memory.

Now, the group have revealed that they’ll be disbanding following a handful of final shows.

Taking to Facebook earlier today, the group broke the news to their legions of fans.

“After eight LPs, a handful of EPs and the better part of a decade worth of national touring, we’re calling it a day on The Ocean Party,” the group began.

“After our brother, friend and bandmate Zac Denton tragically passed away in late 2018, we felt that writing new material without him wouldn’t feel right and the time has come to call it quits.”

“We’ve been incredibly fortunate to have been able to do this together for so long,” they continued. “This band has been such a big part of our lives for such a long time, that it’s going to feel really strange to end it.”

“It’s been a way of making friends across the country, a way of seeing some amazing place around Australia and the world, a way of feeling validated artistically and most importantly an excuse to spend countless amounts of time together.”

“We’re going to all miss being a part of The Ocean Party and we really want to give it a proper send off.”

The group also revealed that an EP of songs written by Zac Denton and initially planned to be released in 2019, will also see the light of day, with vinyl copies being sold on their final tour dates.

Kicking off in late March, The Ocean Party’s final tour will hit up Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, and Wombarra, and will feature two sets, including a performance of Denton’s Nothing Grows EP, and a performance of the band’s greatest hits.

Check out all the details below, and ensure you head out to one of The Ocean Party’s final shows to pay tribute to not only their legacy, but that of the exceptionally talented Zac Denton as well.
