Following an incredible reception to their first over-18s pub show in Sydney, the original lineup of beloved Aussie children’s entertainers The Wiggles have announced a Melbourne performance.
Taking to Instagram, the band confirmed their original lineup would be taking the stage together on 9th September at an as-yet-unannounced Melbourne venue to be revealed next week.
Tickets will hit sale on Friday, 15th July and as with the first performance, all proceeds will be going to charity. The band have partnered with Soldier On, who help physically and psychologically wounded warriors.
Speaking to Music Feeds last time around, blue Wiggle Anthony Field said he’d be up for doing another reunion show. “The vibe was so great, the original Wiggles fans were so passionate, you can’t help wanting to do it again,” he said.
“I just want to do it again, and do the same thing, make it a charity thing. I reckon maybe head down to Melbourne for the next one. We haven’t booked anything, but everyone after the show was just buzzing. It would be great fun.”
The first show took place at Sydney’s Dee Why RSL and celebrated the band’s 25th anniversary with Greg, Jeff, Murray, and Anthony running through classics like ‘Fruit Salad’, ‘Wake Up Jeff’, and ‘Hot Potato’.
It may have been an 18+ affair, but the show was a classic Wiggles performance, free of risqué jokes or puns and everyone got a chance to relive the days when four guys in coloured skivvys singing songs about pirates and dinosaurs were their number one source of entertainment.
Speaking of pirates and dinosaurs, all of the classic Wiggles co-stars, including Dorothy, Captain Feathersword, right through to Wags the Dog and Henry the Octopus made an appearance. The energy was so high it even caused a blackout at the venue.
