Melbourne multi-genre, multi-instrumental outfit The Tiger & Me will be helping launch an interactive information evening for the Australian Institute of Music in Melbourne.

Taking place tomorrow night, Thursday 1st May, the triple vocalist-led folk and cabaret pop group will take the stage at the Institute’s state of the art Melbourne Campus in the city’s CBD, when the Australian Institute of Music (AIM) holds their Melbourne Information Evening.

Driven by piano, bass and drums, The Tiger & Me also draws on guitars, ukulele, accordion, and violin. All demonstrated in their critically-lauded 2010 debut album From A Liar To A Thief and its follow-up, 2012’s The Drifter’s Dawn, which led the band to breakthrough appearances at several of Victoria’s biggest festivals including Port Fairy and Apollo Bay.

As well as the headline performance from The Tiger & Me, the free event (yes, free) will offer potential students and their families an exclusive opportunity to meet and speak with industry-savvy staff and current students about how AIM can help spring-board highly sought-after careers in the music and entertainment industries

The much-anticipated evening will also offer up a variety of dynamic performances from some of Australia’s most respected and promising emerging musical talents, ensuring that no attendee will leave without inspiration or confidence in the feasibility of a career in the music industry.

AIM ambassador and industry legend John Foreman will speak and perform on the night, along with renowned guitarist, YouTube sensation and recent AIM graduate, Sam Westphalen, who is taking his first steps on the international stage this year with a 15-date tour around China.

Other musical highlights include, former The Voice finalist and AIM Alumni Josh Kyle, who will take to the stage to perform a smooth and funky set of classic and contemporary jazz numbers, as well as talk about his own experience as the new Coordinator for Contemporary Performance at AIM Melbourne.

With Trimester 2 applications now open, AIM’s Events & Recruitment Coordinator, Jody Millerchip, says the Information Evening is a great way for the public to find out first-hand about the diverse range of Diploma and Bachelor Courses that have recently been introduced at AIM Melbourne.

“We have three departments that will be represented on the night through live performances and entertainment, interactive presentations, campus tours, and talks with staff and students. These range from Composition & Music Production to Entertainment Management and Contemporary Performance.”

“The evening will showcase everything that AIM Melbourne has to offer – the talent and success of current and former students, the specialist knowledge and expertise of faculty members, and the stunning brand new, purpose-built campus, which is nestled in the beating heart of Melbourne’s creative epicenter.”

Each department will have a dedicated classroom so that potential students and their parents can interact with staff and ask specific questions. On-the-spot applications will also be available so that those looking to get their foot in the door sooner rather than later can begin the process.

“This really is an event not-to-be-missed for anyone who is interested in pursuing a career in music and entertainment, and we look forward to delivering some great music, wonderful entertainment and informative insights on the night,” adds Millerchip.

The recent launch of AIM’s Melbourne campus is providing exciting new opportunities for students wanting to get into the music and entertainment industry. The Information Evening on May 1 will give the public a taste of the extraordinary education opportunities that AIM is offering in 2014 and beyond. Head to the official AIM website for more details.
