In case you missed it, last week news broke of the shit-show that was Threatin‘s European “Breaking The World” tour. Now the bassist who was hired to tour with Threatin, Gavin Carney has released a video statement discussing his experience of the tour.

To summarise what happened over the past few weeks, an American artist Jered Threatin conned his way into being booked for a European tour by buying Facebook likes, video views and even putting together a fake video of live concert footage.

When it came time to tour, unsurprisingly no one showed up, so when media attention grew most of the touring band pulled out. Carney stayed on almost until the end. After the tour, Threatin released a statement questioning “What is fake news? … #Psychology”. Check that out below.

Gavin Carney has now released a six minute video statement discussing his experience on the tour and with Threatin himself. In the statement the bass player says “Do I feel conned by Jered? Not necessarily,” continuing “I have no reason to believe he’s responsible for ticket sales or the amount of audience we get. However, I don’t have any evidence to prove he isn’t. I never physically met management, or people in charge of marketing or venues and all that.”

He also spoke about the fact that he stayed on because he couldn’t afford not to. “I didn’t have the money to leave… Jered and Kelsey also offered if I felt like I wanted to leave I could leave and they would pay for my ticket home.”

Carney only left the tour once his family began to voice their concerns, “After seeing the fake news post… They were very concerned and wanted me to come home.” The musician also says that they had a great time “sightseeing and stuff” despite the drama surrounding the tour. “I never felt uncomfortable or anything” he confirmed.

On Jered Threatin himself, Carney called him “a very good musician, a very talented person.” Even going as far as saying “I can’t imagine why he would need to fake his way through anything. He has the skills and talent obviously.”

He also spoke about Threatin’s recent health struggles “He’s also recently had some physical ailments that have made it painful for him to do even basic things. So the fact that he went on tour with that doesn’t seem like something someone with a con artist mentality would do.”

He concludes “I would work with him again, no problem.” Which seems a bit silly, but then again so does using an organ as a resting spot for a bag of coffee beans (see the above video).
