Catchy is the best way to describe the music of Cub Scouts and their first EP, Told You So.

It’s in the harmonising vocals of “Hands” and “Scream” and in the sleek bassline of Told You So. With the release of their debut EP the Brisbane five-piece solidify their status as one of the country’s top young indie pop acts. With its infectious keyboard riff and instantly recognisable vocals, album opener “Evie” is one of the songs of the year.

Told You So shows a more diverse sound of the largely pop-oriented rockers with a darker sound really coming to the fore, though it still maintains the pop sensibilities the band has become known for. There’s enough diversity on the EP to shows these kids really do have a future in not only Australia but overseas as well.

Considering Perth band San Cisco were recently signed  by international record label Fat Possum there’s no reason why Cub Scouts can’t follow suit and make a name for themselves abroad. It will be interesting what they bring to the plate with a full-album release.
