Hair metal veteran Tommy Lee has announced two new singles, ‘Tops’ and ‘Knock Me Down’. Both tracks are due for release this Friday, June 5th. The 57-year-old Lee has been talking up a new solo album for several months.
Lee made the announcement via his social media accounts. “BIG NEWS… 2 new songs out on Friday!” he wrote. He also shared a link to pre-save the two singles and a 15 second clip that previews both tracks. ‘Knock Me Down’ features little-known US hip hop performer Killvein, who released the three-track CANTOXII EP in late May. ‘Tops’ features LA-based, South African rapper Push Push aka Nicci St. Bruce. The ex-stripper Push Push turned heads with her 2019 single ‘INB4’.
Lee announced that his new solo album was finished in September 2019. “Lookin like a March release,” he wrote at the time. He also claimed it would be a varied affair, tweeting that he’d been working on it for two years. “Making sure everything is amazing for you,” he said. “This is gonna be a flip! 2 sides 2 genres.”
Lee’s most recent solo LP was Tommyland: The Ride, which came out in 2005. That album also featured numerous guest vocalists, including Butch Walker, Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger, Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter and Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden.
Lee has since released one record with his rap rock project Methods of Mayhem, in which he shares lead vocal duties with John “J3” Allen III. He also reunited with his Mötley Crüe band mates Mick Mars, Nikki Sixx and Vince Neil in 2018. Just this week the group confirmed their stadium tour with Def Leppard, Poison and Joan Jett would be pushed back to the summer of 2021
Lee has also been critical of Donald Trump in recent days and weeks, calling the President a moron and criticising him for his woeful handling of the coronavirus pandemic.
