For those uninitiated, UK rockers Beach Baby have just dropped their very-buzz worthy EP Limousine via Caroline and once you give it a spin it’s pretty clear why they’re currently the talk of the town.
Since premiering the title track with Zane Lowe on Beats 1 ‘Limousine’ has been added to Triple J’s regular soundscape and sees the UK natives continuing to build on the international buzz currently surrounding the band.
Bringing to the table their own unique take on the addictively endearing slacker pop sound, the four piece from London have translated what is a typical US focussed genre territory to create a more universal vibe.
To celebrate the release of this four track EP the guys have kindly penned a track by track run down of the impressive release which you can cheek out below. Give it a spin and get in the mood for summer. If you like what you’re hearing pop by the band’s Facebook page for more info.
Limousine
This is the most recent song we’ve recorded – and is the first of many that we’ve been doing with Adam Jaffrey (Bloc Party, Spector, Dev Hynes) in East London. It’s a song about a sociopathic weirdo, and it’s our most hard-hitting tune yet – Iraklis’ bass line really leads it, and makes you want to mooove.
Ladybird
‘Ladybird’ was the first single we released, and we recorded it in a series of bedrooms over a period of about six months, tinkering away until we felt we had it right. It’s got a dreamy vibe, and some pervy, Freudian lyrics. It’s been a mainstay of our live-set since we started playing at the beginning of the year, and always gets a good reaction.
No Mind No Money
A personal fave of the band, this song started out with Ollie’s super slinky guitar line, before Lawrence added some lyrics to the verses and choruses. I can vividly remember when we first demoed it – we were all really excited by the way it came together. We’ve had people think that Ollie is singing ‘Beatles, be The Beatles’ on the bridge section – which he isn’t – but we’re thinking maybe that is what he should sing…
U R
This is one of the very first Beach Baby tunes we ever wrote, and it’s one of the first we recorded too. When we first put it out, we attracted an unexpected fan in the form of Kick Ass’ Chloe Grace Moretz, which was surreal. It’s got a similarly hazy vibe to Ladybird, but when we play it live we give it a bit more juice, and it gets pretty raucous.
