Aussie rick n roll icons Gay Paris last week unleashed their killer brand new album Ladies and Gentlemen: May We Present To You The Dark Arts. Filled to the brim with gutsy blues rock riff and rambunctious energy, the album is everything we’ve come to love and expect from the four piece.

Written and recorded over a period of 13 months this, album number three finds Gay Paris reveling in the bones of the band that they were, fleshed out with carnal bass-lines, starving riffs and lyrics that possess a certain (if horrific) charm.

To celebrate the release of the record, the band have given us a track by track run down of their latest effort Ladies and Gentlemen: May We Present To You The Dark Arts. Check it out below and if you like what you’re hearing be sure to grab a copy of the LP at www.gayparismusic.com.au.

Draw, You Harlequin Saints

Pay your respects to the cold, uncaring hand of cards that you are dealt and warm them with a sweet, hot draught of limited choice. If we are determinists, deontology doesn’t matter. Don’t even get me started on consequentialism. Pony up and enjoy the perfection of form, it isn’t like you have any choice, right?

She Haunts Every Dance Floor

What has love got to do with it (the State/any uninvolved agent)? For that matter, whose business is your fucking business anyways? If a system of dogmatic morality (which of course is no morality at all) is imposed on the rational mind, the developing person, the actor that may be the greatest player on the stage, well, what if they aren’t just an actor but the author

Don’t fear the ghost. Get on the dance floor and don’t let the owls tell you who to partner up with (or for how long). Dance because you want to and only if this is the case, you’re still gorgeous, wallflower. Love you all SO much. Satan is love. Hail Satan!

The Dirt Eaters

I once said that rock n roll is no excuse for communism, but then again, I hadn’t had a drink that day, so wasn’t feeling up to defending my argument. The red yellowbelly, you cry! This is the alienation of value, the morality of expectation. the event horizon of ‘wealth creation’ and other abstract evils with bioethical impact. Get a good job or go to Hell. You deserve what you are worth and no society owes nothing to its constituents.

It Sleeps In Caves

There is an intellectual and moral cowardice/dishonesty in arguments that will not allow for the same proof based treatment of any ontological claims, and in the claim that anything is ethical without a framework more coherent than ‘because HE said so’. Death is coming, not waiting. Make life wonderful. Give it the old joy, genius and hilarity. Don’t waste your time on fretting about what comes next. There was nothing, then it was and when it isn’t, it won’t matter (atomically?). The concept of an afterlife intrinsically devalues what we have going on in the right here, right now. That said, Hail Satan! Love you all SO much.

The Sackcloth Saint Of The Cornfield

This song probably sounds like one of the nicer things we have done as a business/music collective. That said, it deals with some pretty nasty stuff. Regarding this, I have probably made an ass of myself in attempting to express this whilst holding a golden cherub, and for this I am sorry.

We’re looking at the idea that there is empirical evidence against any person from an object/abject position infringing on the prosperity and happiness of a person in position of the subject – specifically looking at the advantages that cishet, white men have and at the awful bawling of certain members of this group when told that there is no ethical reason that they are owed/deserving of any privilege that they currently hold.

If feminism or any other kind of rationale based humanist equality movement scares you, you are a vile (violating, violent?) fool and deserve public derision. Personally, I’ve committed or allowed actions (we’ve been too casual in our celebration of the carnal in a way that now leaves me ill at ease, as my buffoonery and japes may oft miss their mark) that make me part of the problem (passively, actively, ironically, I’m a real piece of work), and I am trying to get right with the situation. This is an apology and a condemnation, not a celebration. Love you all SO much.

Flintlock Barbara Goes Boom

This is one for all the smoking saints and cannibal mothers out there. Herein I ask what limits there are to resistance, expectation and obligation, specifically regarding the use of force, whether sanctioned by the state or called for on a presumably moral basis. Get dressed in your ghost alibis and blast off.

Ember Season

This just in: science and religion do not mix. Allow for validation only for possible discredit of theory. The ideologue is a quaint, if savage creature. Harangue until the jackalope sings. Laudate eam sicut discedemus!

Cult Slang

A consideration of the most valuable tool humanity has: communication. I tend to see this as language, writing, the power of abstract symbolism and the incredible progress the species made once it began to preserve ideas in a manner more concrete than oral compositions. But why privilege language? And why writing? And why any one language or one discourse? Get cult. Get arcane. Get slang, you beautiful polyglots in waiting.

The Devil And Why You’re Not Alone

There is beauty in the lie, there is something magical in resistance and there is something deeply satisfying when the shade of wings covers your sleep. Hail Satan.

If Beasts Pray

Baby, we’ll go crazy! Even if we don’t survive (with apologies). Down in the brambles and briar, under hooves and horns, you’ll find out what matters. Blood? Keep it simple. We probably haven’t resolved much for all the length of our walk through the woods, but at least we have talked the talk that goes with every old night. Listen to the growl until you know enough to growl back.
