As the story goes cramming four dudes into a teeny makeshift studio above a bar on a sweltering day doesn’t sound like the ideal way to produce a record, but local rock collective Shepparton Airplane did just that.

Featuring members from The Peep Temple and Graveyard Train, Shepparton Airplane are a blistering post-punk four piece full of spiteful boredom and a penchant for gut punching choruses.

With beer and creative energy as their fuel, the guys have crafted an impressive eight track self-titled LP that will crew you up and spit you out in a matter of manic minutes.

To celebrate the release of the record, the guys have penned a track by track run down which you can check out below. Give it a spin and if you like what you’re hearing be sure to visit the band’s Facebook page for more info or pick up a copy of the record over at Bandcamp.

GOT NO HEAD

Always a good idea to open with a banger. And always a good idea to have a mic in Steve’s face while he bashes out a sick beat coz he’s got this great voice and writes the best lyrics. This one’s about drugs I think (but don’t quote me on that)

LONG WHILE

This catchy af pop tune about being young and doing dumb shit not only features Stew on lead vocals (oh yeah, and me), but it has a thirty second pick slide in it (courtesy of Ez). Not many songs have a thirty second pick slide. Did I mention the thirty second pick slide?

DEPRESSURE

The first song we wrote when it was just two guitars and a drum machine and I was listening to way too much Wire (not that there is such a thing as ‘too much Wire’ coz they rule). It originally had a proper vocal melody and lots of lyrics but that kinda spoiled the hyper minimalist feel we were going for. And yes, that was a UCB reference (I’m not that much of a wanker).

WHAT WOULD YOU KNOW

Repetition is my job. It’s my job to be repetitive. Being repetitive is my job. Classic call-and-response vocals was the order of the day but it ended up being more like me saying stuff while Steve and Ez berated me for it. Oh well. Stew’s awesome bassline makes it possible for the guitars to go off on one. Very fun to play. And I get to pretend I’m Angus Young for a brief moment.

DRINK THE WATER

If you hadn’t yet figured out that we like a lot of music from the nineties, now you do. Ez makes his lead vocal debut on this one. Another absolute banger. Totally goes off live.

SUPERHEROES

Steve and I wrote this one about five years ago whilst on a bender in a day sesh that produced three other equally odd songs. We were going to call the project Zero and put it out but we got busy with our other bands and kinda forgot about it. Somehow it seemed to fit with this band so we resurrected it.

TOWN CRYER

Our attempt at being the Wipers while simultaneously having a dig at singers who cry/whinge too much. A good excuse to yell and make lots of guitar noise.

ROCKIN’ MAN

An unashamed rock anthem. When a melody that infectious happens to just fall out of your guitar, you’ve really got no choice other than to roll with it. Embrace it even. Keep Rockin’ Man.
