Every week there’s a bunch of music-related stories, links, videos and other internet goodies that are a little on the trashy side, but for whatever reason get everyone in the office talking.
This is what the Tone Deaf Trash Can is all about – it’s our avenue for sharing the funniest, weirdest and downright tackiest music stories of the week to make sure you’re up to date with the best (and worst) things in pop culture. Enjoy.
Bow down to the Beyoncé soundboard, or ‘Soundboardt’
The internet is a wonderful place. Someone has gone and made a soundboard of the most quotable moments from Queen B’s recent game-changing self-titled album, Beyoncé. And it’s ***Flawless.
Relive your favourite moments from the album that shocked the entire world when it arrived out of nowhere late last year. From the seductively drawl of “Hey, Mrs. Carter” to the fiercely ego-boosting “I woke up like this”, and obviously the infamous “surfbort” of ‘Drunk In Love’ being the centre-piece, your tiny attention span is going to love this like XO.
Ride the Soundboart here.
Is this the worst DJ set of all-time?
Brace yourself for crippling secondhand embarrassment and get ready to cringe…
Footage of the most awkward DJ set ever was captured recently at an event called Dreamhack, the world’s largest computer festival held in Sweden. It’s also a festival that prides itself on being completely alcohol and drug free, which probably explains why the crowd resemble a wall of lifeless zombies. This poor guy was doomed from his fist half-hearted pump, not getting any reaction from the least-turned-up-to audience in existence (minus one keen punter up the front) and gets slammed by the judges for his “hands-free DJing”. It hurts to watch but it’s impossible to turn away. (via The Guardian)
Miley Cryus Covers Outkast While Wearing A Miley Tee
The most talked about person in pop whether you like it or not, Miley Cyrus, is currently riding enormous hot dogs and going down giant tongue slides on her US Bangerz tour. But it’s not the gimmicky props that people are talking about – it’s her cover of Outkast’s ‘Hey Ya’ that’s getting tongues wagging.
Performing at the Staples centre, Ms. Cyrus (wearing a Miley tee because she’s just being Miley) treated fans to a stripped-back version of Outkast’s hit masterpiece, slowing things down and turning it into a Cyrus-fied country ballad. It’s bound to be polarising seeing as ‘Hey Ya’ is such a classic (in fact it was crowned Best Song of the Millennium) but it’s hard to deny her vocal pipes. Are you a fan?
Lorde wants the radio to stop playing ‘Royals’
You know you’re doing alright as an artist when you don’t want radio play.
Realising that she’s being made into the royal she thought she’d never be, Lorde has announced that she wants the airwaves to take her breakout Grammy-winning anthem off high-rotation. In a new interview with V Magazine (which she features on the cover for alongside Haim), the self-aware 17-year-old expressed how she wants the global hype-storm to settle down a little.
“I want to let people stop hearing Lorde on the radio all the time, because it’s kind of crazy at the moment,” expressed the self-aware singer. “I’d like to give people a little bit of breathing room before I unleash something different.”
In more Lorde-related news, O’Connor’s curly mane was recently snapped hanging at the beach with her BFF Taylor Swift. The fame ain’t all that bad. (via Buzzfeed)
