Triple One and NERVE are the latest Aussie acts to take up the challenge from triple j’s Hobba & Hing to create a song about what Australia has been getting up while in isolation.

The tune is called ‘Joe X’, and its titular protagonist is, of course, Joe Exotic aka the Tiger King from the eponymous Netflix Original documentary sweeping the globe at the moment.

Following efforts from Holy Holy and Peking Duk in recent weeks, Triple One and NERVE were tasked with putting together a song in 24 hours that covered some very specific topics. triple j listeners were again given the opportunity to call and text in to submit their ideas for the song.

The song has to include the following references:

  • Joe Exotic aka the Tiger King
  • Grey’s Anatomy
  • Halo
  • P0rn.

The result is an epic, and pretty damn cooked result, based around a sample provided to 19YOMAN. The chorus is simply ‘Joe X / fuck the feds’ over and over, plus there’s references to Joe Exotic’s arch-nemesis Carole Baskin.

The video isn’t half bad either.

After Triple One delivered the tune to Hobba & Hing on Thursday afternoon, Lewis Hobba asked how they felt about it.

“I feel nothing,” came the response. “I’m just tired now…”

Peking Duk and Benson’s quarantine anthem ‘Isolation’ became so popular over the last week or so that the last week or so that they decided to officially produce and release the song as an official single, out soon.

Here’s hoping the Triple One and NERVE follow suit, because if there’s a tune we need to get us through this quarantine, it’s gotta be ‘Joe X’.
