When David Bowie said “You remind me of the babe with the power of voodoo” he must have been referring to Orlando metalcore act Trivium. The band correctly guessed the release date for Tool’s long-awaited new album.
At 2018’s Rock of the Range Festival, Loudwire asked a bunch of artists to predict the release date for the secretive album. Amongst those who were asked were Greta Van Fleet, Corey Taylor, Bullet For My Valentine’s Matt Tuck, and Andrew WK. Only Trivium bassist —and apparent psychic— Paolo Gregoletto guessed the August 30 release date correctly. You can check out footage of the interview below.
Watch rockers predict Tool album release date
Tool unveiled the release date of their forthcoming record during a performance at Alabama’s Legacy Arena on Tuesday night. The band partook in a rare intermission, in which the date August 30th was displayed on screens behind the stage.
Whilst Tool are yet to make an official announcement about the release date, it’s safe to assume that this is an indicator of when we can expect to receive the band’s first record in thirteen years.
Earlier this year, drummer Danny Carey said the band’s new album would arrive in “mid-April”, shortly afterwards Maynard James Keenan clarified that the release date would be “somewhere between Mid May and Mid July. More focused updates to follow as we progress.”
Earlier this week, Tool treated fans to a taste of new music, delivering a version of ‘Descending’ with vocals for the first time, and an unheard track called ‘Invincible. We’re not quite sure when we can expect studio version of this track, but we’re crossing our fingers in hope that we’ll receive a new single in the coming weeks.
Tool’s last release was 2006’s 10,000 days. Last year, frontman Maynard James Keenan’s supergroup A Perfect Circle released Eat the Elephant, their first album in 14 years.
