Chicago indie rock heroes Twin Peaks have announced a new EP, Side A. The four-track release will come out on Friday, July 3rd. You can listen to the first taste of the EP, ‘What’s the Matter’, now.

Side A is set to arrive just ten months after Twin Peaks’ fourth LP, Lookout Low, which contained the laidback groover ‘Dance Through It’ and rootsy rock’n’roll number ‘Oh Mama’. The Chicago quintet have kept busy in the interim, releasing the standalone single ‘Our World’ in October 2019 and contributing a version of Wilco’s ‘Spiders (Kidsmoke)’ to the Wilco Covered compilation (via Uncut magazine) in November.

Not prone to winter hibernation, Twin Peaks were back with even more new music in January 2020, delivering the double single ‘Cawfee’ and ‘St. Vulgar St.’ Why? Well, why the heck not? “We recorded these two songs in our practice space in Chicago,” said guitarist Clay Frankel at the time.

The upcoming Side A EP comprises a collection of tracks recorded before the coronavirus pandemic took hold. Though, the band engaged in some remote collaboration to finish off the tracks. The record features contributions from OHMME, V.V. Lightbody, Lala Lala and Tom Reeder.

“We run the recording side of our operations out of our very own Studio D at Treehouse Records,” said Twin Peaks in an announcement. “At the onset of this pandemic, we realized out recording efforts would be waylaid, so we worked to finish the songs closest to completion remotely.”

The EP will be available everywhere on Friday, July 3rd, but if you preorder Side A on Bandcamp, you’ll be sent a link to download all four songs within a few hours of purchase. The band have also announced an ongoing charity initiative.

“All proceeds from our new ‘BUSINESS TEE’ will be donated to BLACK LIVES MATTER CHICAGO, and each month we will rotate which item in our merch store is for benefit and what cause/organisation said items benefit,” they said.
