The lengthy saga of the upcoming tour for Chicago indie-rockers Twin Peaks has reached its end, with the group officially announcing their tour’s cancellation today.

First announced in early February, Twin Peaks were on track to visit Australian shores in April, but after the global COVID-19 pandemic hit in mid-March, it became clear that things weren’t looking good for these shows.

On April 8th (one day before their tour was supposed to begin), the Aussie trek was rescheduled to October and November. Things were looking good for these updated dates, but following the joy of a new EP earlier this month, the Chicago outfit have officially announced their tour is no more due to the uncertainty surrounding touring amid the global pandemic.

“Friends of the dudes… With the ongoing situation with COVID-19 we have no choice but to cancel this tour,” a statement released earlier today explained.

“The band cant wait to get back to Oz and we will make it happen as soon as we can. Until then, look for a communication from the relevant ticket agency. Stay safe and look after each other.”

“Given the endurance of the global pandemic and the ongoing uncertainty of when we will safely be able to play shows again, we are officially cancelling our Australia tour in October,” Twin Peaks wrote in their own statement. “We won’t be rescheduling at this time, as the longevity of this situation remains unknown to us all.”

It remains to be seen as to when Twin Peaks will eventually return to Australian shores, but absence will of course make the heart grow fonder. Meanwhile, Boogie Festival (which the group were supposed to play on October 31st) is planning to proceed with a local lineup should restrictions allow at the time of the event.
