Ty Segall Releases A Crunching New Single: ‘Break A Guitar’

Ty Segall is one of those rare artists who are both prolific, and have a high level of quality control.

His self-titled album is his ninth solo record since 2008 – not to mention the many collaborative records he has also released during that time period.

Segall doesn’t see this as particular odd, however. Talking to The Guardian today, he said: “Look at the Stones or the Beatles back in the day – they put out two albums a year. Neil Young has, like, 35 studio LPs or something. I just don’t feel like making 10 songs a year is that crazy or fast, you know what I mean?

“I’m not making insane prog or orchestral music, or even crazy Aphex Twin-type stuff – I could understand that takes a long time. But rock’n’roll? It’s not that crazy.”

The album is out January 27 (which will be a good 24 hours for lovers of guitar-heavy indie records, with both Japandroids and Cloud Nothings also releasing records on that day) and he has shared a new song from the record, the crunching ‘Break A Guitar’.
