The coronavirus crisis has seen mass cancellation of music festivals, large-scale performances and other social gatherings. Just this week we’ve seen the cancellation of Download Festival Australia, Coachella and SXSW. Live Nation, AEG and a bunch of other leading promoters have also pulled all large tours scheduled for the month of March. Now, Under the Southern Stars has postponed the 2020 instalment of their festival.

Under The Southern Stars promoter, Andrew McManus has issued the following statement.

“In light of the current global health crisis, we feel that it is imperative to protect the Under The Southern Stars family and proceed in a clear and calm manner,” shares Under The Southern Stars promoter, Andrew McManus, in an official statement.

“We have been closely monitoring the situation as it develops and following directives from the Chief Medical Officer of the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC).  With the increase of travel bans and lockdowns, in an effort to stop transmission of the virus, and with the safety of our patrons, artists, staff and crew in mind we have no other alternative than to postpone our April 2020 festival tour dates.”

The festival is set to announce revised next week. Organisers expect that the festival will take place around February/March 2021. All tickets purchased for the 2020 instalment of the festival will be valid for these new dates.

Under The Southern Stars was set to host performances from +LIVE+, Stone Temple Pilots and Bush.

As the global outbreak continues, organizers of large public gatherings have been forced to assess whether or not to hold their scheduled events as planned. Globally, there have been over 127,000 confirmed cases with over 4,700 deaths.
