Last night the UniSounds ’18 Grand Final took place at The Lansdowne Hotel in Sydney. The event saw seven finalists take the stage and battle it out for a $100k grant in front of a panel of industry juggernauts. Newcastle five-piece Mr. Sauce walked out victorious, taking home the top prize of a recording deal with Dine Alone Records and a promotions package.

UniSounds has described Mr. Sauce’s music as “enchantingly curated tracks are infused with jazz, funk, blues and pop, from gentle doo-wop swing to riviera stylings there is a dreaming optimism to Mr. Sauce which is irresistible, easily comparable to Szymon or Devendra Banhart. And all the while staking claim to some of the best original material we’ve heard in a while.

The Grand Final for this year’s competition also marked the launch of UniSounds ’19. Entry for students looking to enter the 2019 program is now open. The competition gives aspiring musicians a life-changing opportunity. The winner of UniSounds will score themselves a prestigious grant, including an EP recording deal with Dine Alone Records, a recording session with an ARIA-winning producer, songwriting sessions, a PR package and a bunch of other essential assets. It’s a priceless leg-up in the industry.
