Indie-rock icons Vampire Weekend have covered an Aussie classic, giving Crowded House’s ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’ a spin while in Cleveland.
On August 1st, the world of music will be celebrating the 33rd birthday of Crowded House’s self-titled debut album.
An absolutely stunning release, the record not only peaked atop the Aussie charts, boasted a number of phenomenal singles, and kicked off the career of a beloved group, but it also helped bring the group to worldwide fame.
In fact, one of the band’s best-known tracks was that of the album’s third single, ‘Don’t Dream Over’, which cracked the top ten in the UK, US, and Canada, bringing the band the international fame they deserved.
Over the years, we’ve seen plenty of famous acts cover the track, including Sixpence None The Richer, Middle Kids, Sarah Blasko, and even Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande, but now you can add Vampire Weekend to that list.
Check out Vampire Weekend performing ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’:
Hitting up the Jacobs Pavilion in Cleveland, Ohio on Friday night, Vampire Weekend decided to give fans a taste of something special, dishing out a tribute to Crowded House as part of their encore.
A faithful rendition of ‘Don’t Dream It’s Over’, the screams of appreciation from fans seem to indicate that Ezra Koenig and co. undoubtedly know how to cover a song properly.
Seemingly bolstered by the response, Vampire Weekend even covered the song again on Saturday night, when they played a gig in Cincinnati, clearly proving that Ohio is the place to be to hear them belt out this tune.
At this stage, it’s not too clear when Vampire Weekend will be bringing their Father Of The Bride tour to Australia. With the group performing a one-off show for Splendour In The Grass last year, fans are hanging out for their first headline shows in the country since 2014.
However, with a pretty booked schedule for the rest of the year, it seems Ezra Koenig still has plenty of times to learn more Crowded house tunes. Maybe the opening bars of ‘Mean To Me‘ will help soundtrack their arrival in the country?
