Last week, Vampire Weekend released the music video for their own track ‘Sunflower’. The clip was directed by Jonah Hill and features a cameo from none other than Jerry Seinfeld (and a perfectly smeared bagel.)
In an interview with Rolling Stone, Koenig has revealed that he initially panicked upon learning that Post Malone had released a song also called ‘Sunflower’. “We have a song on this record called ‘Sunflower,’”He shared. “‘God, we have to get this out!’
Vampire Weekend’s forthcoming studio album Father of the Bride is set to be released on May 3rd. It is the band’s first record in six years, their last being 2013’s Modern Vampires of the City. The band have released four tracks from the album thus far; ‘Harmony Hall’, ‘Sunflower’, ‘2021’ and ‘Big Blue.’
Koenig has revealed that FOTB will consist of 18 songs and will run for just under an hour. Back in January, he announced that the band would be releasing two singles a month until the album is released.
In an interview with Music Week , Columbia Records’ Ferdy Unger-Hamilton proclaimed that FOTB would be “your favourite record” of 2019. “The record’s brilliant, it’s going to go really well,” he shared. “It will be your favourite record next year, and they’ll come in and do some shows.”
Vampire Weekend last graced Australian shores last year for a headlining appearance at Splendour In The Grass. However, the band haven’t embarked on a nationwide tour since 2014. Whilst they gear up for a massive North American tour, we can only hope that they’re cooking up a tour for their fans down under.
