Venomous Rat Regeneration Vendor, the latest studio album by gloomy industrialist Rob Zombie has been released only days after his most recent horror movie The Lords of Salem was released.
The follow-up record to Hellbilly Deluxe 2 combines the funky grooves of his days under the ‘White Zombie’ alias with the contemporary Rob Zombie era.
VRRV launches with tracks ‘Teenage Nosferatu Pussy’ and ‘Dead City Radio & The New Go’ combining the gruff melodies and spoken word of Zombie with signature sex themes and gory imagery. The groovy horror soundtrack is filled with melodic riffs by award winning guitarist John 5, the pounding bass courtesy of returning drummer Ginger Fish and bassist Piggy D.
The band has come up with tracks like ‘Ging Gang Gong De Do Gong De Laga Raga’, containing generally nonsensical lyrics and babbling as well as ongoing sexually suggestive references to seductive women. Despite the abstract themes depicted in the lyrics, the music is as heavy and catchy as the typical Rob Zombie you know and remember.
The bassy track ‘Rock and Roll (in a Black Hole)’ is filled with instrumental distortions and voice clips until the groovy industrial blow-out picks things up with the repeating chorus: “we’re all dancing in a black hole, when all we want to do is rock and roll.”
The 2013 album is like a 40 minute acid trip with the funky twists and turns it takes. Give it a spin if you enjoyed the 1990s ‘White Zombie’ era.
