Cronulla native Adam Newling may have cut his teeth in the Australian music circuit as the guitarist for Ruby Fields, but he’s officially made a name for himself with the first taste of his solo work.

Debut single ‘Cheer Up’ is a tight-knit slice of country-tinged indie-rock heaven, which shows off Newling’s propensity for piercing and introspective songwriting. The visceral track explores the trenches of depression through a lens of hope and propels, with white-hot intensity, towards the light.

“This is a song about befriending that person and creating a balance,” Newling explains. “I don’t think it’s possible to ignore feeling blue so the answer I think is to understand. Other than that it’s a pretty fun song, it’s fun to play and it’s fun to sing so… enjoy.”

Newling has released the single with an accompanying, sun-dipped video directed by Tas Wilson. Check it out below and stay tuned for more on the way from Newling.
