There must be something in the water in Brisbane. The latest export from the sunny city is 20-year-old alt-pop artist Hallie – and she’s one to watch.

Having previously won us over with tunes like ‘Nice Like Rice’, her debut EP Wink Wink Nudge Nudge and as tour support for the likes of Stella Donnelly, Holy Holy and Spacey Jane last year, Hallie has charged into 2020 with a new single and a stunning visual for ‘Sympathy’.

The track, produced by Oscar Dawson from Holy Holy, was penned about the anger you can feel after being trapped in a negative and judgemental conversation.

“I just really didn’t want to be that dickhead and I needed to put myself in my place to make sure I didn’t get caught up again,” Hallie said. “I hope ‘Sympathy’ is the refresher listeners need, so they rethink how they want to be spending their energy.”

Hallie won the triple j Unearthed slot at BIGSOUND last year, and has come further into her own since.

The video for ‘Sympathy’, directed by Madeline Randall, builds with the song. Choreography by Zoe Bauer and Erika Jayne Goldsmith reaches out and surprises you in parts, then it lulls you back to safety in others.

With all its pre-summer dreamy visuals and stark rock-infused fragility, both Lana Del Rey and Ali Barter would approve.
