A song about Palms frontman Al Grigg’s love for his boyfriend, accompanied by a visual animated by SPOD – what’s not to love?

Sydney’s Palms have made the term ‘comeback’ their b*tch thanks to new single ‘This One Is Your One’, their first new music in over five years. Infectious indie rock that sounds like it was birthed in a garage with zero cars and three couches in it, ‘This One Is Your One’ is a buzzing, all-encompassing song about love.

Al Grigg says of the track, “On a super personal level the song is about how rad my boyfriend is. But on a more universal level, I guess it’s about the transformative power of love. I know that’s heaps corny, but I feel like I’ve written so many downer songs, it was time to throw a positive one out there.”

Recorded with Liam Judson (Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever, Cloud Control) in his Blue Mountains studio, the single stands up against the band’s past catalogue earworms like ‘Rainbows’ and ‘Love’.

“I really feel like I’ve grown so much over the last few years,” says Grigg. “Like I’m more me than ever before. In a lot of ways, I feel like I was sleepwalking through life but I hope this song sounds like the rush of waking up.”

Palms are performing Sydney’s Lansdowne Hotel next month to celebrate the single.
