If you needed any proof of just how resilient the music world is, you only need to head to social media.
In the midst of COVID-19’s incessant grip on the music industry, and the need to stay indoors and cancel any gatherings over 100 people, musicians are making sweet lemonade online.
You’ve got Coldplay’s Chris Martin taking requests with his ‘together at home’ movement, The Cat Empire launched the ‘Lockdown Getdown’ this morning, and Death Cab for Cutie frontman Ben Gibbard is streaming intimate acoustic shows from his bedroom.
However, our favourite so far is this hilariously relatable song and video by Wollongong artist and songwriter Cyrus.

Cyrus tells Tone Deaf he penned the track and filmed the video after a songwriting session was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak.
“I decided to spend the day in the studio working on stuff by myself,” he says. “While I was having a coffee before starting, I randomly started singing a hook and free styling lyrics. It started just as something funny to send on snapchat, but turned into a kind of dope song,” he laughs.
“I went into the studio and made the beat. Then recorded and tracked everything in like two hours.”
Enter, the #COVID19Challenge
Cyrus, who is one of Australia’s leading alt-pop talents (just check out his track ‘Blah’), has now come up with a challenge for other artists:
“I have uploaded an instrumental to the song on SoundCloud, for other artists, singers, rappers, WHOEVER to download for free, and record a version of them singing and talking about what THEY are doing on their isolation. Then upload and tag #COVID19Challenge. It gives us all a chance to exercise our creativity while we’re stuck indoors!!”
