Australian rock royalty Dead Letter Circus have just unleashed their kiler new video for their single ‘While You Wait’ and it’s the freshest cut from the band’s forthcoming album Aesthesis – Available August 14th via UNFD.

Kim, the band’s vocalist gave us a little run down on what the band have been up to of late and the process behind the new record; “Coming into writing Aesthesis we had been touring the last record for the previous 2 years and were pretty much run into the ground and burnt out.

“Overseas, we’d been thrown on metal tour after metal tour, always the odd one out on the bill as a rock band with no breakdowns or screaming. This was character building to say the least and we loved we bands we were touring with, but honestly playing night after night to a completely different genre’s audience had had an effect on us mentally and emotionally. When it came time in our cycle to provide a new record for the label we literally had nothing in the song bank and were uninspired and confused as to a direction to even begin. Our options seemed obvious, ‘lets take a break and recoup’ or ‘lets roll the dice, book some studio time and see what happens’ . We went with the latter, convinced our label and management we had a bunch of killer songs ready to rock, and took the blue pill.

“Rather than creating some frantic piece of music first and me wailing over it, this time we wrote most of the songs vocally first. Our hopeful outcome being that the band would still sound like DLC when wrapped around a core of solid vocals. What we didn’t realise is that this process would end up helping us vastly expand our signature sound we’ve become known for. It was so fucking awesome the moment we finished the first song in this way called ‘The Burning Number’. We hit play back and a couple of us in unison said ‘That’s fresh!’

“About halfway through the preproduction I looked at the guys and realised that everyone had this sparkle of excitement in their eyes that I hadn’t seen for a long time. Collectively, writing this album we’d fallen in love with music again and personally I knew because of this album, there would now be another.

“I love making music videos and had been hanging to tackle the new bunch of clips. While You Wait is a very special song for us and when you read the lyrics it’s also a very blunt and brutal reality slap for us all in this moment in time. I didn’t want to go too literal with it as it would be a little too confronting so instead we wanted to display some thought related thought provoking imagery and hopefully people join the dots. The best I way I could think to achieve this was to find 2 amazing water-colour artists Clint Gough and Shelldon Bowers and have them paint this vision by hand, then animate these paintings and drop the band into this world.

“After a day of Green Screen performance we spent the next 6 weeks creating the scenes by a process of the 2 artists painting to the rough story line, taking high res photos and then the animators from Silo6 Wayne and Trish Reynolds brought the world to life. Our storyline drifted and a lot of new ideas came on the spot but overall we stuck to the theme’s of Diocletian’s Problem-Reaction-Solution, media manipulation and people’s seeming willingness to react and follow to these more than obvious methods. The end result of all the hard work and begging the label for extensions were more than worth it.

“One of the goals we’ve had from the start of the band which at the time seemed more like a fairy tale was to have Chris Lord-Alge mix a DLC song. He is simply without peer the best rock mixer on the planet and has been for a long time. It was always a bit of a pipe dream to us but we thought we’d send him a couple of tracks to check out and perhaps if he vibed, something might happen. To our surprise Chris loved the tracks and offered to mix the whole record.

“When the first track came back mixed I listened in the car with one of the producers Matt Bartlem and when the track finished neither said a word in shock at how massive it sounded. Matt simply looked at me dramitically, pulled the car over on the side of the road, and we played the song 4 times over before speaking. One of us simply said ‘ Chris Lord-Alge is a fucking genius!’

We’re about to head out on the While You Wait single tour and are poised for another cycle of touring. We cannot wait to give this album over to the people.”

We can’t wait to hear it! Aesthesis is Available August 14th via UNFD.
