The We Are Scientists Australian Tour 2014 was set to kick off in just over two weeks time, but the band have just announced that the January tour has been postponed until May 2014.

The New York indie rock outfit were set for a series of dates in capital cities around the country at the tail-end of January, but the band have now confirmed that the tour has been rescheduled for the second half of the year owing to work on a new studio album.

“Due to the need to put finishing touches to their forthcoming album, We Are Scientists are regrettably postponing their upcoming Australian tour to May 2014,” reads a press statement issued this morning.

“Tickets currently held will be valid for the new dates. Unfortunately the new schedule does not allow for an Adelaide show [originally held at The Gov on Thursday 23rd January]. Adelaide ticketholders and those unable to attend the new dates will be able to obtain refunds from place of purchase.”

The new album will mark the band’s first release since last year’s Business Casual EP, but the as-yet untitled fifth LP will be We Are Scientists’ first full-length release since 2010’s Barbara.

Known for their quirky sense of humour, portrayed both in their rock tunes and memorable onstage banter, We Are Scientists were set to arrive in the country to deliver their best-loved material live. Including their clutch of memorable singles from their 2005 breakout album With Love And Squalor, such as ‘Nobody Move, Nobody Get Hurt’ and “It’s A Hit’, as well as ‘Return The Favour’ and ‘Dumb Luck’ from their latest EP.

The rescheduled May tour will mark We Are Scientists’ first visit to Australia since 2008, when they released their most successful single ‘After Hours’, and will likely debut new material from their soon to be released new album.
