The guitarist for American thrash metal act Testament has taken aim at his fellow citizens who claim that wearing a mask makes them any less free.

In a video he uploaded to Twitter, Alex Skolnick said that politicizing a health matter like wearing a mask is “the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard”.

He was responding to a video of a woman that went viral over the weekend, standing in a Trader Joe’s and refusing to wear a mask.

Skolnick began my mocking the woman. “Our freedom. You can’t tell me to wear a mask,” he says. “I’m sorry. I have to vent to you guys. This is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”

The Testament member lives in Brooklyn, New York, so he’s seen first hand the impact of people defying public health orders and the city not shutting down quick enough.

“You’re gonna make it political, wearing a mask? Wearing a mask and going indoors to restaurants and breathing on everybody, making that political?

“I have to say it’s the dumbest thing I’ve heard since Freedom Fries,” he continues, comparing not wearing a mask to people refusing to each french fries during the Iraq war in the 2000s.

Skolnick is just the latest metal musician to speak out publicly against Americans who refuse to wear masks.

The singer for Queensryche, Todd La Torre, shared a photo of a surgical mask on his Twitter over the weekend, via Blabbermouth:

The caption read: “A Mask Is Not A Political Statement. It’s An I.Q. Test. If you are someone not wearing a mask, you are part of the problem.

“125k DEAD, 2.5 MILLION cases and rising. This selfishness couldn’t be more evident. You want to get back to work? You want to go out and socialize someday? Put your fucking mask on!!!”
