One of the finest groups to ever come from Adelaide, West Thebarton, are back with new music, a new video, and some brand new tour dates.
Not even one year ago, West Thebarton were busy prepping the release of their long-awaited debut album, Different Beings Being Different.
Fast forward 11 months, and the “seven-headed soul-rock hydra” have toured the country, played international festivals like Reading, Leeds, Pukkelpop, recorded a Like A Version, scored an ARIA nomination, and have done just about everything a band aims to do.
However, it seems that they’ve found the time to hit the studio in the meantime, with their exceptional new single, ‘Tops’, being unleashed.
Premiering on triple j’s Good Nights on Monday, ‘Tops’ is an astonishing anthem from the Adelaide rockers, full of tasty riffs and powerful choruses that they’ve become known for.
Seemingly mirroring the feeling of being an in-demand group, ‘Tops’ sees the band touching on themes of exhaustion (both mental and physical), and searching for that much-needed respite.
“This song is about those times in your life when you know you should feel so fucking good about yourself, but all you can focus on is negative,” explains frontman Reverend Ray Dalfsen.
“One particularly dark day, I gave my partner a call” he continued, “and she just paused and said, ‘fuck it, live in the sunshine.'”
Teaming up with director Nick Astanei, ‘Tops’ is backed by a stunning video that features footage of Adelaide’s seedy side streets, along with shots of the group’s recent headline show in SA’s newly-opened Lion Arts Factory.
However, if this video is getting you eager to see the band on the live stage once again, you can rest easy, with West Thebarton announcing their latest national tour today.
Tapping Hobart rockers A. Swayze & The Ghosts as support, The Tops Tour will see West Thebarton kick things off in Adelaide at the end of May, before hitting up Sydney, Newcastle, Melbourne, Perth, and Brisbane, before wrapping things up in the Gold Coast on June 22nd.
Tickets to the upcoming tour are on sale now through the band’s website, while pre-orders for the limited-edition 7″ vinyl release of ‘Tops’ are also available now.
