Another day, another protest for what surely must be the most hated group on the planet – the Westboro Baptist Church – who have picketed and protested at a Radiohead concert in Kansas City after declaring the band were a blight on morality and humankind.

Usually known to picket funerals of US soldiers killed in Iraq and Afghanistan carrying placards declaring ‘God hates fags’ and ‘Thank God for dead soldiers’, the church group also resorted to name calling labelling the popular British band ‘freak monkeys with mediocre tunes‘.

“God is undoing this nation and effecting all of your lives, with the moth that quietly eats the very fabric of your national garment,” the controversial church group wrote on their website. “Radiohead is just such an event. Freak monkey’s with mediocre tunes keeps you busy and focused by lightness. It changes nothing, God is undoing and digging up and throwing down this nation.”

It isn’t the first time the church group have protested at a concert. Last year they publicily declared war on the Foo Fighters claiming they promoted ‘fornication, adultery, idolatry and fags’ after getting a bit too hot under the collar after watching the homo erotic teaser video put out by the band to promote the tour.

But it was the Foo Fighters who got the last laugh upstaging the planned protest. They arrived unannounced at the protest on the back of a truck, wearing wigs, trucker hats, and fake beards like in their video. They then sang a new song specially written for the protesters entitled ‘Keep It Clean’, a tribute song to same-sex love.

Radiohead have also made light of the protest, with longtime producer and ‘sixth member’ of the band Nigel Godrich tweeting out “Highlight of the tour so far… Being picketed by westboro baptist church this evening.. Hoorah! Freak monkeys with mediocre tunes.. New band concept.”

Radiohead are due to tour Australia later this year in November, their first tour in nearly a decade. All shows are completely sold out but the promoter for the tour Chugg Entertainment has promised a few more tickets will be made available closer to the dates.
