The long list for the annual Australian Music Prize (AMP) has been announced, putting 56 homegrown albums, including releases from Courtney Barnett and Gang of Youths, in the running to score a cool $30,000.

The annual competitions aims to discover, promote, and reward the very best in Australian music, with the AMP’s 16-member judging panel diligently listening through hundreds of Australian albums.

The list is an eclectic smattering of genres, with entries ranging from blissed-out psychedelic offerings, to high-octane heavy metal, and sweetly sung folk, to raw garage rock, as well as everything in between.

The AMP shortlist will be announced 3rd February, with the winner to be crowned during the Amped Up In Conversation event on 9th March, and readers can check out the full list of 56 albums below.

This year’s winner will join a prestigious list of former winners which includes Remi, who took out last year’s prize, as well as Big Scary, Hermitude, The Jezabels, Cloud Control, Lisa Mitchell, Eddy Current Suppression Ring, and more.
