Time to add another 2021 event to your list because the Wide Open Space Festival is finally back after a two-year hiatus.

Things were looking pretty damn good in early 2020 for the festival, which is one of the most unique family-friendly events in Australia that celebrates our culture like no other.

However, a massive COVID-shaped wrench was thrown in the works, resulting in the cancellation of the 2020 edition of the festival.

But after an unintended two-year hiatus, the Wide Open Space Festival is back for 2021 for to celebrate all things Australian culture.

Kicking off on Friday, April 30th and running until Sunday, May 2nd, at the Ross River Resort (which is a short and scenic drive from Alice Springs), festivalgoers will be treated to a comfortable playground that has cabins, showers, a fantastically stocked bar, a themed pool party, and of course, Red River Gums to provide you with all the shade you need.

As for what one can expect from the event, the Wide Open Space Festival is a celebration of Australian music, art, and culture that’ll get your creativity flowing and the adrenaline pumping.

“The WOS team are so excited to bring back this enigmatic festival after a rest year in 2019 and then a postponed 2020.  10 years of love, sweat and beers have gone into building the event to the point where people come from all over Australia and the world, to celebrate with us in the heartland of the country.” said Director Scott Large

“We love showing NT talent to the world and mixing some of the most interesting acts from all over Australia, alongside a dazzling program of arts and a strong local cultural representation.  Central Australia is a real crossroads of people and cultures and we invite everyone to come and get connected at this years”

While the 2021 program and artist lineup has yet to be announced – stay tuned for that – festivalgoers can look forward to things like:

  • Music – You’ve got bass music throw-downs to chilled folk acoustics, funky house music by the pool, late-night experimentations, afternoon reggae sessions, and even nocturnal shredding thrash metal. In short, the festival is a multi-faceted musical mash-up that caters to all tastes.
  • Performance – A tapestry of cabaret and burlesque, roving creatures, circus and aerials, fire and a whole lot of dress-ups.
  • Art – There will be large scale video projections, immersive interactive spaces, engaging installations and a plenty of hands-on art making.
  • Workshops – A rich program of forums, sessions and lectures that spans dance, costume, sustainability, place & belonging, body movement/energy, through to culture and politics.

Tickets are on sale now for the event but best get in quick because COVID-19 restrictions mean that there are only a limited number of spots available.

Since you can’t go OS, you might as well go WOS.
