Death Angel drummer Will Carroll has fully recovered after his coronavirus scare, revealing that he’s back behind the drum kit for the first time since contracting the virus.

Carroll’s experience with COVID-19 was about as intense as it gets, and in during the worst of it, he was not only on a ventilator but also slipped into a 12-day long coma.

He revealed the news of his continuing recovery on Facebook via Blabbermouth, saying he was even happy to get blisters because he was enjoying being “back on the horse” so much.

“I just played my drums tonight for the first time since the last show of The Bay Strikes Back tour and a lot has happpened since then and now,” Carroll wrote.

“I’m happy to say things went great. Everything came back to me quickly. I jammed for close to 2 hours and never got winded and my heart never raced. Aside from getting a couple of vicious blisters on my fingers everything felt as it should. I’m super stoked to be back on the horse.”

He first began feeling sick after Death Angel spent a month on a tour with fellow metal acts Testament and Exodus earlier in 2020.

“I knew it was the coronavirus,” Carroll said, when detailing his experience last month. “I get colds here and there but I had a fever and aching and this intense flu. I never get sick like that.”

“Since we travel so much in and out of there people recognised us and just said: ‘Death Angel – welcome home!’ We looked like shit and were sweating. But since they see us all the time we got lucky.”

After being sent to hospital, things swiftly deteriorated. “I don’t remember the ambulance ride or getting to the hospital. The next thing I remember is waking up after a 12-day coma with tubes stuck in me and machines all around. I didn’t even know I was in San Francisco.”

Testament singer Chuck Billy and Exodus guitarist also came down with COVID-19 while on the tour.
