The chemistry of French horn, violin, percussion and unique beat boxing come together as sound and silence.

Melbourne band Catch Release formed in early 2011 with front man Tom Lee-Richards envisioning a sound made of jazz, soul, classical, folk and pop elements. Supporting this, a French horn and violin came out to play. Coupled with a unique style of beat boxing, slowly they grew. Think of the bold style, groove and humour of Beck, the harmony in Beirut and the soulfully bare melodies of Antony and the Johnsons and you have something of a taste of Catch Release.

Tom Lee-Richards, gives the music place with his suggestive lyrical imagery, creating mood and moments of childlike wonder. Haunting honey tone vocals layer on top of edgier jazz chords and classical instrumentation, creating a cinematic soundscape. Drummer Bill Bates adds inimitable beats with his background in African percussion. Navin Gulavita (violin) and Tim Hannah (French horn) bring strong melodies and Keir Nicholson builds the groove on bass.

Together Catch Release have made a beautiful debut EP ‘Sleep Is A Friend Of Mine’ for the real music lovers and listeners. The will be launching the EP at THE WESLEY ANNE – Wednesday 27th MARCH.
