One of the finest British rock acts to have enjoyed worldwide success over the last few decades, The Cult is ready to release ‘Choice of Weapon’, the group’s first studio album in five years.
Released in Australia on 25th May 2012 on Cooking Vinyl via Shock Records, its 10 tracks reveal the band at its rawest and most visceral, encapsulating cinematic visions and themes of love, revolt, and redemption.
The album is already receiving rave reviews in the UK:
Bottom line, The Cult are Back! This album is bad ass! Kind of complicated and deep. Not easy to define and mat take several listens. You will get it, or you won’t. I for one get it and love this album. Produced by Chris Gross and Bob Rock. The Cult – Choice of Weapon is worth the wait!” 4.5 of 5 stars – Full Metal Rock (US)
“There are comebacks and then there’s the new Cult album opener. ‘Honey from a Knife’ delivers everything required from these gnarled perpetrators of sincere rock hokum. Most of Choice of Weapon drinks from the same manic source. Billy Duffy is supreme throughout, with heroic leads lending poignancy to Elemental Light and his taut riffage thickening the bands scrawny post-punk roots on ‘The Wolf’ and ‘For The Animals’. If 2007’s ‘Born Into This’ felt a touch mechanical, this is the true spirit walking”. 4 Stars – Mojo Magazine (UK) – June 2012
“Choice of Weapon is absurd, brilliant and stupidly good fun” 4 Stars – Q Magazine (UK), June 2012
“Pummelling ninth from rock’s other glimmer twins. Choice of Weapon strikes a requisite note of defiance, Billy Duffy’s balls-to-the–wall riffola sending Ian Astbury back into shamanic nirvana.” Uncut Magazine (UK) June 2012
