Karen O says she’s ready to hit the studio with Yeah Yeah Yeahs and record new music. We’ve been waiting a long time for this kind of news.

“All I can say is that I feel ready to make some music,” the band’s frontwoman said in a new interview with our very own double j. “It feels like time to have something new out there.”

Karen O also made sure to caution fans that the Yeah Yeah Yeahs have yet to solidify any concrete recording plans, meaning it may actually be a little bit of time until we hear anything new from the band. Even so, the very idea of new Yeah Yeah Yeahs music should get the blood pumping in your veins.

Fans of Karen O and company have been waiting for new music since 2013’s Mosquito. And with that album ushered in Yeah Yeah Yeahs reputation for album covers that are fun to look at and also questionable in their artistic direction. Who knows what new album art is in store for us with the new project, given the iconic nature of It’s Blitz!

Beyond time in the studio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs have several upcoming festival appearances on their calendar, including Atlanta’s Shaky Knees and Memphis’ Beale Street, and of course their recently announced appearance at our very own Splendour in the Grass. The band were also caught up in a latest controversy regarding female-lead bands being headlined at Splendour, seeing that they were sandwiched between male-lead bands with bigger text than them, and arguable less impact.

In 2017, Yeah Yeah Yeahs released a deluxe edition of their debut album, Fever To Tell. Last year, Karen O teamed up with Danger Mouse for the excellent collaborative album Lux Prima.

We can’t wait to hear what new Yeah Yeah Yeahs music sounds like.
