Aussie rock veterans You Am I have been touring nationally since June, playing their classic early albums Hourly, Daily and Hi Fi Way live in their entirety – including at this year’s Splendour In The Grass and the inaugural Dark MOFO festival in Hobart. But the band have had to cancel the final leg of their extensive tour, originally scheduled to wind up this Sunday 11th August.

The band posted on their Facebook earlier today confirming that they’d pulled the plug on the final date of their Daily Double Tour at the MacKay Entertainment Centre, writing: “It is with regret that, due to unforeseen family circumstances, You Am I has to cancel its planned performance at the MacKay Entertainment Centre this Sunday. Refunds are available at point of purchase.”

The MacKay show was one of three dates added to the Daily Double Tour back in May when fan demand for tickets saw the band adding extra legs to their headline tour, which saw the lineup – frontman Tim Rogers, Andy Kent, Russell Hopkins and 15-year-veteran “new guy” David Lane – marking the 20th anniversary of their 1993 debut Sound As Ever and its two classic follow-up releases, 1995’s Hi-Fi Way and 1996’s Hourly, Daily.

All three albums were given the full reissue treatment this year, in remastered digital, CD, and 180g vinyl reissues, along with a ton of extras including B sides, never-before-released live performances, studio tracks, demos and expanded liner notes and unseen photos.

“It was nice to go through that stuff and have a little glimpse of what went into making those records,” guitarist Davey Lane told Tone Deaf in a recent interview. “We’ve uncovered some really interesting stuff. There’s a song that You Am I recorded for Hourly Daily that I didn’t know existed. It certainly wasn’t released anywhere and Tim doesn’t remember recording it.”

The Daily Double Tour has been receiving rave reviews from fans and critics alike, including Tone Deaf’s own reviewers at the Brisbane’s Tivoli Theatre and The Forum in Melbourne trumpeting the band’s show, which will hardly take the sting off for fans with tickets to the MacKay leg.

Despite the last date of the Daily Double Tour being scuppered the “unforeseen family circumstances” haven’t affected the band’s forthcoming shows at the Darwin Festival this Friday and at the Tanks Arts Cetnre in Cairns on Saturday.
