Yungblud has revealed that Rod Stewart himself is aware of the elaborate white lie that shaped one of his most cherished childhood memories.

The British musician disclosed that Stewart once sent him an Instagram message acknowledging the fabricated family connection, writing simply: “All right, me wee grandson.”

The heartwarming deception began with Yungblud’s maternal grandmother, who raised his mother as a single parent. Rather than explaining the absence of his grandfather, she crafted an ingenious story that Stewart was actually his estranged grandparent. For years, he believed this tale, growing up with the notion that one of Britain’s most iconic rock stars was part of his family tree.

The illusion remained intact until Yungblud reached approximately nine years old. During a routine shopping trip with his grandmother, he spotted a Rod Stewart CD at the checkout counter. The moment triggered an innocent but devastating question that would shatter the carefully constructed narrative.

“It was like proper quivering lip, like, ‘Nan, when’s granddad coming home?'” Yungblud recalled during a recent interview on The Capital Evening Show with Jimmy Hill. “And everyone at the checkout started laughing at us, knowing that they caught my grandmother in a blatant lie. And that was the day I found out Rod Stewart was not in fact my grandfather.”

The revelation became a defining moment for Yungblud, who has shared this story in various interviews over the years, including a 2019 Rolling Stone profile. However, the recent disclosure about Stewart’s direct acknowledgement adds a new dimension to the tale.

“I was like, ‘Rod Stewart, man, he’s got the banter!'” Yungblud laughed, clearly delighted by Stewart’s playful response to the long-running family joke.

Currently, Yungblud is touring Europe in support of his latest album, Idols, which was released in June. Following his European dates, he has several North American shows scheduled for late November.
