The nominees for the Sailor Jerry Rolling Stone Australia Awards have been unveiled today ahead of what promises to be a big night for Australian music.

Set to be an invitation-only event of “live music, unlimited drinks and a celebration of Australia’s incredible music” at The Argyle in Sydney on March 31st, the Sailor Jerry Rolling Stone Australia Awards is looking to be one of the leading events dedicated to the celebration of Australian music after a trying and unpredictable 2020.

The event will feature a broad range of genres represented across five awards categories: Best Record, Best Single, Best New Artist, Rolling Stone Global Award, and the Rolling Stone Reader’s Award.

Leading the way is Perth’s Tame Impala, the Tone Deaf favourite from Perth who is up for three Rolling Stone Australia Awards including Best Record for their fourth album, The Slow Rush.

Also in the mix for a big night is indie-pop artist E^ST, genre chameleon Tkay Maidza, sibling duo Lime Cordiale, global pop icon Sia, hip-hop export The Kid LAROI, and psych-rock “one person band” Tash Sultana, all of whom have two nominations each.

The Rolling Stone Global Award will be determined by Rolling Stone‘s global staff and they’ll have a tough job ahead of them in trying to pick a winner from a list of legends that include 5 Seconds Of Summer, Keith Urban, Tame Impala, Tash Sultana, The Kid LAROI, Tones And I, Troye Sivan, and Sia.

Rolling Stone Australia magazine subscribers will also play a part in the proceedings as they’ll vote for the winner of the Rolling Stone Reader’s Award, with official voting opening on Friday, January 22nd. In addition to voting, magazine subscribers will be given the chance to attend the awards ceremony in Sydney.

The Brag Media Managing Editor, Poppy Reid, said:

“While 2020 will be remembered as the year that tipped the music industry on its axis, the music that has been released is nothing short of astonishing,” said Reid. “I believe the incredible breadth of Australia’s music talent is reflected in these nominees and I’m so looking forward to celebrating each and every one of them at the Rolling Stone Australia Awards in March.

“I’m also thrilled that our judging panel consists of Rolling Stone’s global editors, who represent the brand in 13 countries,” Reid added. “To place local music front and centre with some of the world’s best music observers across the globe is so exciting as we believe every single nominee is a powerful export.”
