Atlanta rapper 21 Savage has been arrested by immigration officials, who claim the rapper is actually from the UK. According to ICE spokesman Bryan Cox, Savage was arrested in Atlanta during a targeted operation and is set to be deported.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested unlawfully present United Kingdom national Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph AKA ’21 Savage’ during a targeted operation with federal and local law enforcement partners early Sunday in metro Atlanta. Mr. Abraham-Joseph was taken into ICE custody as he is unlawfully present in the U.S. and also a convicted felon.”

ICE has alleged that 21 Savage, born Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, arrived in the US in 2005 at age 12. Abraham-Joseph failed to leave the country when his visa expired a year later. ICE has also claimed that the rapper is being held for a felony drug charge dating back to 2014.

In a statement obtained by TMZ, Abraham-Joseph’s lawyer has claimed that she in the midst of getting the rapper out of detention “while we work with authorities to clear up any misunderstanding”.

“Mr Abraham-Joseph is a role model to the young people in the country – especially in Atlanta, Georgia and is actively working in the community leading programs to help underprivileged youths in financial literacy,” she continued.
