The Queen of RnB graced Byron Bay Bluesfest with her presence this year and had me (and thousands of other punters) squealing like I’d won the lottery. So by no one’s request, here are 3 embarrassing and awesome things that happened during her set at 2018 Bluesfest Byron Bay.
Embarrassing
1. She was set to be on stage at 10pm, but her DJ snuck in and spun tunes for 32 minutes first. He played a Sean Paul song for some reason, and this is far too many Sean Paul songs for a Good Friday.

And
Meanwhile people are getting sick of this DJ and chanting “laaaaaaauuryn” … some are just giving up and heading over to watch @RobertPlant. Lots of options at #bluesfestbyronbay, no need to stay to listen to Sean Paul tracks on a CDJ

2. The DJ kept calling the crowd “Brisbane”
3. When Lauryn Hill came on stage, she too called the crowd “Brisbane” several times before eventually switching to “Byron Bay” midway through the set. When she did, she got cheers, a shit load of cheers.
Awesome
1. Holy shit she’s a queen. How do Bluesfest keep booking such unbelievable artists who have shaped music culture? She was absolutely remarkable with her full live band, back up singers and red hat.
2. Omg, her red hat!!!!!
3. She is a rock star, a queen, a preacher, a leader and an inspiration. The fact that she was on stage, in Brisbane (I mean Byron) absolutely crushing every flow, melody and deep audience gaze at the age of 42 makes me want to go and climb mountains, twice, while listening to Lauryn Hill.
