Though the much talked-about Soundwave “Comfort Zone” was met with cheers and eager anticipation after it was announced last month via promoter AJ Maddah’s hyperactive Twitter account, the festival founder later confirmed that there would not be a Comfort Zone at Soundwave in Melbourne and Adelaide.

The area was to include “[a] massage service, good coffee and cake, good wine” and, perhaps most importantly, “lux serviced toilets”, and be open for punters aged 30 and up to give them somewhere to sit down and relax after watching the likes of Soundgarden, All Time Low, and The Smashing Pumpkins.

However, the promoter later confirmed that the Comfort Zone would be “Sydney and Brisbane only”. As the touring mogul explained on Twitter, “Sadly, we can only do Brisbane and Sydney due to planning permission.” Maddah also claimed that the area would now be open to anyone over 18.

Tickets for the Comfort Zones in Sydney and Brisbane are now on sale via Eventopia, with numbers strictly limited to 700 and Maddah has advised that the amenities provided, for which no official announcement has been made, will be based on advance sales figures.

However, while the promoter initially claimed that the coveted zone would cost punters about “$15 or $20″ to enter, the prices have now gone up to $30 for single day entry and $50 for the whole weekend. While we’re still not sure what the money will be getting you, there has been talk of coffee provided by baristas and exclusive bar service.

Those still up in arms about why this lush-sounding exclusive area is open only to the older Soundwave revellers, like one Twitter user who wrote, “Basically sounds like my dream for a festival, but why only over 35s?”, Maddah has a solid retort for the outrage: “That’s who needs it?”
