If there’s one thing reality television is known for, it’s being totally unrealistic. Those explosive, totally on-the-fly arguments and dramatic moments are almost entirely scripted and orchestrated by a team of writers and producers.

Even reality singing competitions like The X Factor have been accused of being subject to the machinations of producers looking for more drama, including by former contestants who claim they were specifically told to throw certain challenges.

However, no matter how tightly produced and carefully orchestrated your show might be, inviting Peking Duk to perform is always like putting a wild card into play and the Canberra boys certainly did things their own way.

The electronic duo have had an absolutely huge 12 months, most recently being nominated for two ARIAs, including Song of the Year, and they furthered their domination last night on The X Factor, performing their latest hit, ‘Say My Name’.

With some help from vocalist Deutsch Duke, who appeared in place of SAFIA’s Ben Woolner, Peking Duk absolutely teared the roof off the X Factor set, heading out into the crowd and setting off pyrotechnics and confetti cannons.
