A couple months back, fans of homegrown alternative hip-hop collective The Avalanches were finally given a reason to hold on to hope when the group finally gave us a legitimate sign that they were still an active band.

In addition to updating their website and social media channels with a still unexplained embroidered butterfly insignia, The Avalanches announced that they would be performing live at this year’s Splendour In The Grass.

Naturally, fans were very excited about the prospect of a reactivated Avalanches, but all they really wanted to know was when that mythical follow-up to Since I Left You, the band’s legendary debut, would finally drop.

Well, earlier this morning the band finally revealed what they’ve been working on all this time: a documentary about how they still haven’t released their album almost 16 years after it first dropped back in November 2000.

Whilst many are speculating the teaser unveiled this morning is for a new album (and they might be right), Noisey are reporting it is in fact for a new doco titled Since They Left Us: What Ever Happened to the Avalanches?.

The clip features cameos from Royal Trux’s Jennifer Herrema, Ariel Pink, Danny Brown, Kirin J Callinan, and Father John Misty, who’ve been rumoured at one time or another to have worked on The Avalanches’ second album.

Fans are already speculating the doco is being released (if it does indeed get released) to hype up the new album. Of course, even the documentary doesn’t have a set release date, with the trailer promising it will drop “Soon… hopefully.”
