Our festival scene is already flooded with an array of boutique festies catering to all tastes – well, make that most tastes.

Melbourne garage rockers The Pretty Littles have spied a few gaps in the market, and have been plotting out a few dream festival scenarios that don’t exist just yet, but may inspire the next generation of promoters to shoot for the stars.

The Pretty Littles have just dropped their new album Soft Rock For The Anxious, and will be heading out on tour in October, dates below.

The Oodnadatta Bong Drive

Everyone wins as a panel of lucky festival goers punch cone after cone for charity. For every $20 raised, each of the entrants (hand picked by the trip-hop festival staff) has to gargle back another hot one.

The competition begins with 100 entrants, and throughout the 2-day festival, millions watching around the globe donate to vote for who stays, and who… goes… home. Julia Zemiro and Sam Pang obviously host SBS’s broadcast of the event.

Jelly & Screamo

You’re either a fan of jelly or screamo but probably not both. The last Saturday of August sees jelly fans and screamo fans go one on one in what’s basically a glorified punch-on in a pool of jelly, with screamo blasting over the top.

The team who wins the most rounds gets to choose the location for the next year. For the seven years it’s been running, it’s always been held on the steps of Parliament House. Good to see they have at least one thing in common. Spectator tickets $50, participants $30.

Michelle And The Gals – On The Road

Michelle and the gals just love road tripping! Well, that and pumping the j’s, yew! Sometimes (more like always!) doing both! (!).

Every December – February they take a fleet of Rav-4s from Melbourne up to the Goldy and back again, then back to the Goldy then back again, getting so amped the whole time. Don’t miss this year’s trip – it’ll be whoa just amazing. Early bird tickets $330+BF.

DIMFEST

A bi-annual celebration of dimmies. Can’t stress enough how important it is to have this festival.

See all of your favourites in one place – Dimmy Eat World, Dimspoon, Dimmy Barnes, Dim Rogers, Nine Inch Dims, The Offspringrollandadimmythanks. Free entry – but you’re not getting in without a dimmy tat.

Gathering of the Craigs (No Craig Bradleys)

A Craig-only affair – if you aren’t called Craig you can fuck right off. Held over two consecutive weekends at Craig’s place in Mornington, you’ll get to ride his quaddy and shake hands with a bunch of other Craigs, all within an hour’s drive of Melbourne.

Don’t be fooled by the name either – Craig Bradley makes it down every year and just adores it. His dad and especially sons (all named Craig) disapprove of the whole thing but they don’t know that the Craig Bradley goes to it, so if you see them please don’t bring it up.
