Tomorrow will mark three years since the release of Hungry Ghost, Violent Soho’s third full-length effort and the album that catapulted them from a much-loved cult act to the forefront of Australia’s guitar band revival.

“We just needed the right album and that was Hungry Ghost,” frontman Luke Boerdam previously told Tone Deaf. “I mean, in the ’70s, labels would sign bands to these elongated contracts and it would be a few albums before they broke, but nowadays it’s like labels expect that to happen instantly.”

“I think we needed some time and to go through some experiences before we could make Hungry Ghost. That’s when we finally had people sharing the record and talking about it and got a real fan base.”

The album became an instant modern classic upon release, propelled by the success of mega-single ‘Covered In Chrome’, which was preceded by ‘In The Aisle’ and followed up by ‘Saramona Said’ and ‘Fur Eyes’ – now staples of the band’s live sets.

To celebrate the album’s third birthday, Violent Soho will release two B-sides from the Hungry Ghost sessions, ‘Domestic Lala’ and ‘Home Haircut’, as limited edition 7″ vinyls. They’ll be available from 4pm Tuesday, 6th September via 24Hundred.

Since releasing Hungry Ghost in 2013, the band have gone on to release another album, the chart-topping WACO, and embark on several major tours, including the mammoth WACO tour with Dune Rats and DZ Deathrays and their current American trek.

The boys are set to return to Australian shores in October to embark on yet another round of national tour dates, this time with good friends The Bronx, before they go on to headline pretty much every festival of the summer.
