Local legendary hardcore band I Killed The Prom Queen have been tearing roofs off venues with the brutal metal influenced hardcore rock for 14 years now (including a brief hiatus), and lucky for us they’re showing no signs of slowing down since the release of their post resurrrection LP Beloved.
Thanks to their label Epitaph Records, they’re about to head off on a 24 date ‘Rise Of Brotality’ national tour alongside label-mates The Ghost Inside. Ahead of the tour, we chatted to the band about some of the record that have changed their lives.
Soilwork – The Chainheart Machine

“After discovering it in 2000, this is the first record Jona (Weinhofen – Guitar, Vocals) heard which blended fast, aggressive thrash music with melody & guitar solos.
We still listen to it about once a month, it’s definitely one of the reasons we were stoked to get Bjorn for guest vocals on our record.”

Since discovering it in 1996, we listen to it during Adelaide hardcore reunions. Although not the first, this record had a big role in promoting animal rights and environmental issues in hardcore.”

Having discovered in 2000, we listen to it whenever we need to stay awake.

This album is alwaya on our tour rotation. Comeback Kid are some of the nicest dudes, and their songs are great to see live too.”

“This is a massively influential record of intense, chaotic Meshuggah style riffing, translated into a melodic metalcore background.
Despite the intensity it waxes and wanes with a really natural flow, drawing in many lovers of technical heavy hardcore. We listen to it whenever we need a dose of polyrhythm tour van headbangs.
Misery Signals are awesome dudes to tour with, they’re just in the middle of the ten year anniversary shows with the vocalist from this record. We’re pretty cut we didn’t have any days off that lined up, they’ve no doubt been epic shows.”
