Melbourne duo Indian Summer have been bringing the bangers for years now, and are about to usher us back into summer with a national tour, dates below.
To celebrate, the oft-suited duo have sent us a playlist of five tracks that ended up being defining moments for them as musicians.
From musical benchmarks to the greatest video clip of all time, here are 5 tracks that changed Indian Summer’s lives.
Daft Punk – ‘Da Funk’
An obvious one, but an important one. This is one of those tracks where I can remember exactly where I was and what I was doing the first time I heard it: Flinders St Station, waiting for a train home. My mate next to me pulls his headphones off and asks me to listen.
He was a band guy, not really into anything electronic at that point, and he couldn’t figure out how a song with so few moving parts could stay interesting for five minutes or more. What a tune!
Crystal Castles – ‘Crimewave’
Another mind boggling track for its time. All we ever hoped for at sixteen was to be as cool as Alice Glass and Ethan Kath. Ten years on and we never quite got there, but we’ll be damned if we don’t keep trying.

Boys Noize – ‘My Moon My Man’ (Boys Noize Remix)
Last week I watched the 2015 holiday season bromance comedy ‘The Night Before’. In it, Mindy Kaling’s character describes Miley Cyrus’ ‘Wrecking Ball’ as timeless: “You can cry to it, you can run to it, you can party to it”. I feel the same way about this song. Nearly a decade on and I’m still waiting to get sick of it.
RÜFÜS – ‘Innerbloom’
Jesus H Christ. The warm crackles, the detuned synths, sweet baby Tyrone’s angelic voice in my ears. 9:39 may seem like an excessive run time for most songs, but with this one its almost not enough. I hear a benchmark in songwriting and sound design being set when I listen to this track.
Gesaffelstein – ‘Pursuit’
Mood, mood, mood! Dark, slamming and relentless. Gesaffelstein is a dude that pulls off the ‘brooding cool’ thing without you wanting to punch him in the face – that’s a hard line to walk! Belter of a track, and possibly my favourite music video of all time. There, I said it.
